Mom Allegedly Stabs Son To Death So He Could 'Go To Heaven'

A Kansas mother accused of murdering her 10-year-old son allegedly did it because she thought “it would be better for him to go to heaven.”

Lindsey Nicole Blansett, 33, was arrested early Monday morning at her home in Wellington, according to KAKE. Police believe that on Sunday night, after her son, Caleb, went to bed, the mother “decided his life would be full of suffering and pain and that it would be better for him to go to heaven tonight,” according to a criminal complaint.

She then allegedly struck the boy with a rock and fatally stabbed him with a knife.

Blansett dialed 911 herself after the incident, according to KWCH. In a call released by Sumner County authorities, she can be heard saying, “I just stabbed my son” and “I'm never going to get out of jail, never. I'm going to have to live with that."

The boy’s 9-year-old sister was unharmed and was taken into protective custody. Those who knew the family say Caleb and the girl were close.

“They did everything together,” a neighbor told KSN. “He was never alone. She was always beside him.”

According to documents from the Kansas Department for Children and Families obtained by KSN, Blansett’s family had been investigated for neglect allegations in 2012, but the department declared the case closed. In May 2014, DCF received a report of neglect in the home. They interviewed “all parties involved” and offered “services” to Blansett, but she refused. Earlier this month, just days before Caleb’s death, DCF received another report of neglect in the home. The case was still being processed when his death occurred.
