Six-year-old Charlie Tilloston, of Sidmouth in Devon, did away with 2ft of her golden locks to raise more than 1,400 for charity.
The young fundraiser told her dad she wanted to give up the hair she had spent years growing – never having even a trim – in order to help cancer sufferers after watching a television documentary.
Mr Tilloston told the Sidmouth Herald: ‘She came up to me a couple of weeks later and said, “daddy, would you mind if I had all my hair cut off for children with cancer?” ‘I welled up.’
The community has bought Charlie a dress and a tiara to wear at this year’s Sidmouth Carnival.
The Little Princess Trust will now send the hair to China to be made into a wig. It will return to the UK and be given to boy or girl going through cancer treatment.
