OXNARD, CALIF. A middle school teacher who was fired after students learned she had appeared in pornography in the past has lost her appeal to return to the classroom.
A three-judge panel unanimously decided Stacie Halas, 32, was unfit for the classroom. Halas was fired in April from her job as a science teacher at Haydock Intermediate School in Oxnard after online videos of her in porn were discovered by students.
Halas was continually deceitful about her nine-month career in porn before she went to work at the school, the decision said.
Her lawyer, Richard Schwab, said Halas had tried to be honest but was embarrassed by her previous experience in the adult industry.
"Miss Halas is more than just an individual fighting for her job as a teacher," he said Tuesday. "I think she's representative of a lot of people who may have a past that may not involve anything illegal or anything that hurts anybody."
Schwab has said Halas did not star in pornographic movies while teaching in any district. He said she took parts only during an eight-month period from 2005 to 2006 because of financial problems after her boyfriend abandoned her.
Halas has been on administrative leave since the video surfaced.

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. - Alejandro Razo, a Southern California nurse, has been accused of committing a sex act on a corpse at Sherman Oaks Hospital.
Officers were called to the hospital Sunday night, where security guards had the 61-year-old Razo in custody.
"The call indicated that a deceased patient had somehow been violated by an employee of the hospital."
The Reseda, Calif. resident was placed under arrest on a state Health and Safety Code violation.
"It's a very sensitive case because you're dealing with somebody who is deceased, who's a loved one of somebody... so it's our job to fight back for them," Neiman said.
Committing an act of necrophilia wasn't deemed a crime in the state of California until 2004, but is now considered a felony. If convicted, Razo faces up to three years in prison.
Razo was released from jail on $20,000 bail.
A longtime neighbor, who declined to be identified by the station, said Razo is a quiet man with a wife and two children.
